The Host

This is a tribute to Stephenie Meyer. She is awesome. She continues to write incredible books. Seriously, there are no parts in her books that are boring. Everything is filled with suspense. Her most recent book is called The Host.

The back says:

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away.

Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie’s thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer’s mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

Stephenie Meyer truly continues the perfect role of the #1 best seller bookwriter!

The Host, Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse are proof of her incredible creativity! There is definitely a gaurantee that Breaking Dawn (4th book in the Twilight series) and Midnight Sun (Edward’s version of Twilight) are going to be just as amazing! But man, I wish famous people came to Delaware!

Thank You Letter

Dear Ms. DelCampo,

You are such an awesome math teacher! I know how hard you have worked to keep our class under control, and I know it’s very frustrating. It makes you happy to see your students understand. Even though they may not realize it now, eventually the things you have taught us are simple and will have to be used in life. Sooner or later they will see how hard you try and what a great teacher you are. I just wanted to thank you for everything you have taught me! I know that without having you this year I wouldn’t be able to hold my attention to the board for more than a few minutes before starting to doodle on stuff.

This year you’ve taught me that math may not always be easy, but there are simple ways to get the answers. The methods you use are so uncomplicated that I actually sort of like math. Weird. I’ve hated math my whole entire life. You changed my perspective on that. Now that’s an accomplishment. You see, I’m stubborn and it’s really hard for me to admit that I’m wrong about something or that I’ve changed my mind about it. But I don’t mind admitting it this time. I’m glad about it. I have an A in math, still! I thought that was impossible.

Your student,

Alex

Twilight Obsessed!

This book is incredible! People seriously always tease me because I like it so much. I talked about Twilight in one of my previous posts, and I know people are tired of hearing me talk about it. But, whatever, I really don’t care because it’s one of my favorite books. The movie comes out December 12th of this year, and I can’t wait. It’s going to be awesome, or at least I hope it’ll be. Here’s the cast:

Honestly, it’s a bad picture, but they’re going to be awesome.

Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the series, comes out August 2nd. I’m so pre-ordering that. There aren’t any pictures of the cover yet so I can’t post it, but I’m sure it’ll be cool. It’s already on the #1 best seller list and it hasn’t even come out yet!

Here are the others;

I have this really cool picture that I made myself, and I’ll add it later.

Some other Twilight stuff:

Alice’s car in New Moon and the bracelet from Eclipse. Both are significant in the other books.

Go there for Twilight info! You can find everything about that book there.

Honor Roll?

I always get a “great job” or an “I’m so proud of you.” But last year that all changed. It was always, “get your homework done or you can’t go out” or “I want this project turned in on time”. I didn’t like getting C’s… And my parents didn’t like it either. I always turned in things late and never got a B beyond an eighty-six percent. Science I skimmed by, but everything else was just a mess. I had no idea what I was doing because I never paid any attention. Before that year, though, I had A’s and high B’s. I guess it was just because all my friends got C’s and low B’s and they were in all my classes. This year that all changed. I committed to getting all A’s no matter what I wanted to do. And so far this year, I haven’t gotten one B in any of my core classes.

After I realized that shutting my mouth and paying attention was worth not being confused, I did it more often. I understand everything now and nothing is difficult, for the most part. I still have friends in my classes, but they’ve upped their game, too. Last year I passed without trying, just because I didn’t feel like doing the work. I wrote crappy papers and short responses to questions. This year, I write as much as I can in my essays in English and in my answers in Contemporary Issues. Whatever it is, I make sure it’s an A.

My parents expect honor roll. So do I. I’m really proud of the fact that I have never not gotten honor roll. By getting honor roll all the time and straight A’s, it allowed me to have so many privileges (cell phone, iPod, etc.). During award assemblies at my old school I would always be picked, like, six times to come and accept an academic award. It always made me proud to be the one that everyone expected to do good.

One year, I got a five on the science DSTP. Ever since then, I’ve been determined that one of these years, I’m going to get another five, and soon. So maybe it’s been three years, but I still have plenty of time. I was so surprised when I got that five. I knew it was difficult to achieve that level, so I was ecstatic when I found out. I get threes and fours, but that five was just awesome. So now, every year afterwards, I’m like, ‘this is going to be the year I get another five’. I’m not discouraged when I don’t get one. I just try harder the next year.

When I had my fall out in seventh grade from being an all A’s student, I realized that it was worth paying attention! I hated being left behind in everything and having to catch up late only to be behind on another thing. So, one accomplishment that I’m proud of is my grades and the things that will follow because of them.

My Review on “The Invisible”

The Invisible is about a boy, Nick, who wants to go to a poetry school in Paris. Meanwhile, he is at high school watching his best friend, Pete, get pushed around by the tough girl, Annie, who can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble. One day, she had problems with her home life. So, when she was with her boyfriend, she decided to rob a jewelry store for fun. She gets in a fight with her boyfriend, who is already in big enough trouble, and then she storms out. He calls the cops and tells on her.

The next morning, she gets busted. She nearly strangles Pete to tell her who it was. He honestly doesn’t know and he thinks Nick is in Paris, so he tells her it was Nick. Problem: Nick didn’t end up going to Paris. Annie hunts him down and beats him death, or so they think. They put his body in a sewer and got away as fast as possible.

Nick wakes up the next morning in the forest. He goes to school, but no one can see, hear, or feel him. He’s invisible. He’s not dead, but he’s not completely alive, either. He is merely an aimless spirit with no hope towards living. Unless, someone can hear him. Annie can hear and feel him. She can’t get away from her guilt because now she knows it wasn’t him who told on her. It was someone else, and she can’t believe she did that to him.

Now she is running to that sewer to get to his body. But, another problem, it’s not there. This movie was one of my favorite movies at a time. Some parts are boring, but they’re very short. This movie was good, but I’ve seen better.

Twilight (Book Review #5)

Twilight

By Stephenie Meyer

He was like nothing she’d ever seen before. He was beautiful. She never knew it was impossible to be that striking. Everyone around him at the lunch table was just as gorgeous as he was. It was her first day at Forks High School and she was already being led around the school by a group of people. After lunch she headed to biology. When she walked through the door, though, there was only one seat left. The teacher told her where to sit, which was predicted, and she walked toward it. Yet did she know that the moment she sat down would change everything. The moment she meets Edward Cullen her future will be a totally different story.

Isabella Swan just moved to Forks, Washington with her dad. At first, she dreads it. She hates the constant rain and the gloomy days. Since her father’s not used to anyone being around, he’s always at work. The only reason she came to live with him was because her mom wanted to be with Phil, her boyfriend. Bella has always looked after her mom because she always had crazy ideas, like skydiving when she’s afraid of heights, for example. But now she was gone, and so far, she missed her mom terribly.

Then she met the ever charming Edward Cullen. Not only is he dazzling, but he drinks blood. Yes, Edward Cullen is a vampire. Not just any vampire, though. Him and his family are “vegetarians”. They eat animals, not humans. Edward also reads minds. This is what first attracts him to Bella (other than her scent, which is a bad and good thing). He can’t read Bella’s mind. He doesn’t understand why and how, but he can’t. It’s impossible.  This book tells the most unforgettable tale of how a mere human girl fell for a vampire. But that’s not everything. She has the most irresistible blood that Edward’s ever smelled. Her scent drives him insane, it’s difficult to leave her alive, but he can’t help but love her. Needless to say, they’re both irrevocably in love with each other.

However, there are dangers. Such as, Bella is a danger magnet. First, she almost gets crushed by a van that slips on the ice. And she’s a klutz. She trips all of the time. This is what makes Bella’s relationship with Edward so complicated. Edward decided to introduce Bella to vampire baseball. Alice (Edward’s sister who can see the future) had warned them about fellow vampire visitors. The “visitors” show up during the game and catch the scent of Bella. With Bella’s bad luck, one of the vampire’s was a tracker. And now he’s after her, and he won’t stop until he gets her. What will happen to Bella? I don’t know. Maybe you should see for yourself.

I would recommend this book to anyone. It’s amazing. And I’ll admit it, I’m obsessed. It’s a remarkable four book series (three are out so far) and I completely suggest them all. The theme is love and possibly adventure, depending on how you look at it. This book tells an amazing story of how tight the bond between two people can be. This, I’m not even exaggerating, is the best book I’ve ever read in my life (in my opinion, of course).

Eclipse (Book Review #6)

Eclipse (3rd book in the Twilight Series)

Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer Bella wants to be with Edward forever. The price she has to pay? She has to become a vampire. This requires three days of excruciating pain as the venom of a vampire bite moves through her system, hardens her skin, and makes her cold. She wants it more than anything. She doesn’t want to become old as Edward continues his life at seventeen forever. She’s willing to brave all she has for this, for him, but there’s a problem. Edward wants the opposite.

Edward doesn’t want to see her in the pain that the change will cause. He doesn’t want her cold and hard and always suffering from the thirst that being a vampire brings. But he is misunderstanding why she wants this. He thinks that she is eager to become a vampire just to be a vampire. Of course, Edward thinks he’s a very selfish creature. But he’s not at all. Bella is doing this for him, to be with him always and for the rest of eternity. He wants her to be with him forever, too, but he doesn’t want to be selfish; and he doesn’t know if he could bite her without killing her.

Bella thinks he’s completely insane. She will leave her friends and family for him. But this is the least of her problems. She is near graduation and the lover of the vampire named James in Twilight, Victoria, is out for revenge. Since Edward killed James, Victoria wants to kill Bella. The vampires and werewolves (arch enemies) are now working together to hunt her down. They team up and are prepared for the war between the newborn vampires and the Cullens and werewolves. Jasper Cullen (Edward’s “brother”) is training them on how to attack the newborns.

Then there’s another problem. Jacob, Bella’s best friend and werewolf, fell for her. He is in love with Bella. Edward and Jacob are ready to fight and always on their guard around each other and Bella can’t stand it. They hate each other but they both love her. Bella is forced to choose between them, but what if she loves them both back? What if Victoria is more skilled then they thought? What if this is a situation of life and death in every way possible?

If I had to choose a character of course I’d be Bella! She’s got Edward: a gorgeous vampire. I would definitely handle all of those situations, no matter how frightening or difficult. There is no way I’d be any other character! I would choose Edward because I like him better than Jacob and I’d already have my life planned out (becoming a vampire). Besides, all of the Cullens are unique and different and it would be so much fun to live with them.  Almost everybody knows I’m completely obsessed with this book. I even have the bracelet Bella wears in Eclipse! I think Stephenie Meyer was trying to tell about how difficult some decisions can be, but you need to try to make the better choice. Any teenage girl should read this because I guarantee they’d love it!

Book Review #7

New Moon

(2nd book in the Twilight Series)

Book Review #7

Stephenie Meyer

She hates it. She’s older than Edward and she’s dying to get people to stop giving her presents. It’s Bella’s 18th birthday. She’s over at Edward’s house and is forced to celebrate it with his family. But, like I said in a previous review, Bella is a major klutz. So she gets a paper cut while opening a present. Typical. This would’ve been no big deal if she wasn’t in a house full of vampires. Jasper, Edward’s brother, attacks her. She fumbles back and slices her arm on the piano. Now Jasper is full speed. He likes Bella, but he’s the youngest vampire and it’s harder for him to resist. Then Edward jumps on him. Him and his sisters and brothers are pulling on him and drag him outside. Carlisle, Edward’s “dad”, is perfectly calm because he’s a doctor (years of practice). He takes her to a table and stitches up her arm. Edward watches, anxious, and he’s not breathing (vampires don’t have to breathe). Carlisle tells him to outside and calm down. He’s gone.

Literally. A few days later, Edward is acting weird. Edward and Bella meet outside the front yard. He’s sad and very quiet. Bella is frantic. She knows this is bad. But she never would’ve thought of the real situation. He said he was leaving her. He promised her he would never interfere with her life again, and that her birthday had made the decision for him. Bella was so shocked… When he left the forest, fast as lightning, she wandered further in and passed out.

Now Bella is depressed. A year passes and she’s hollow, empty. She rarely talks and barely eats. Charlie (Bella’s dad) is depressed with this outcome, also. But one day she decides to see Jacob, an old friend, and seems to find comfort in him. But what happens when Jacob starts acting like Edward did before he left? What if Bella just can’t take the excruciating pain anymore? What if Edward keeps his promise? What if Jacob never comes out of this funk he’s in? And what if Edward is driven too far by an incredible and life changing phone call?

This book is just as remarkable as the first and third. It gives you an idea of how intense Edward and Bella’s love is. It shows you the power of a friendship that seems to lift things up. There are so many things to learn about the whole series in this book that you couldn’t even skip a part without missing something important. Stephenie Meyer really paints a picture for you while you read this that you’ll never forget; the dread in Bella, the difficult feelings in Jacob, and the confusion and hurt in Edward. Also, you can feel the tension between the vampires and werewolves. You won’t be able to put this book down until you know what’s going on! (You can only find out who does this if you read the book!) And remember; don’t jump from high places into choppy currents of water where your enemies might be lurking.

Let it Happen!

Why waste all that money at the YMCA when you could just come to the pool at school? Building a pool and another field would be an excellent idea because it would give you more decisions when you could go to a game. There are so many up sides to a pool and a new field. We could have our own swimming/diving team! That would be new and different. Why else would you build these things? Don’t think about the cons; think about the number of options and privileges!

Gym teachers stress that kids these days need more exercise and activity. By building these things kids would get more exercise. There could be more practices for things going on at once so that the teams don’t have to wait to have their turn on the field. This move could also keep kids out of trouble. We would have something to do in the afternoon, so we wouldn’t be so bored and mischievous.

Instead of graffiti and vandalizing things we can be at swimming practice or another sport practice. Or if they have games or meets then this would give kids a place to hangout when they have nothing else to do. Plus it’s an indoor pool. You could swim year round if you wanted! There are so many positive outlooks on this decision; how could you possibly turn down the opportunity?
